If you are looking for a way to get active in community service, then consider joining the American Red Cross for our huge community service project in April! It’s called Sound the Alarm Save A Life and it takes place on Saturday, April 18th from 8:30am – 1pm, with a special block party from 1pm – 3pm for all volunteers. This program targets at risk neighborhoods and residents that don’t have access to smoke alarms, making them more prone to fire related fatalities. During these events we partner with fire departments and other local groups, to visit homes installing free smoke alarms, replacing batteries in existing alarms and providing fire prevention and safety education to prevent needless tragedies. Because of this program, over 700 lives have been saved since it has been in existence, including 7 lives saved in the Bryan/College Station area. You can also learn more about the program by watching this YouTube video showing how this program helped a family stay safe during a home fire.
Volunteer activities include:
Educating residents about home fire safety
Canvassing a residential area
Installing free smoke alarms
Block Party from 1pm – 3pm
We have a goal to install 1,000 smoke alarms and will need approximately 500 volunteers for this event, so any help is greatly appreciated. We’re available to present this program to companies, employees, community groups and religious organizations.
